  • Cartoon and the Figure

    CFA AR 136

    An introduction to the do of representational and non-representational cartoon with the human figure. Focuses on establishing bones formal skills concerning rendering the human form onto the 2-dimensional page, and conceptually contextualizing figuration in the history of fine art.     Students learn to properly expose, develop, and print black and white 35mm film. Lectures introduce historical and gimmicky photographic practices. Students accept weekly assignments and should be prepared to develop their ain ideas.     Provides a basic technical and conceptual understanding of the medium of photography. Students learn the nuts of RAW image capture using a 35mm DSLR photographic camera, non-subversive prototype file management, input and output resolution management, institution of a digital workflow, adjustment and editing in Adobe Photoshop, and high-end archival inkjet printing. Lectures also introduce historical and contemporary photographic practices. Students have weekly photographing and printing assignments, and should be prepared to develop their own ideas.     Prereq: Kickoff-Year Writing Seminar (CAS WR 120) or equivalent. A chronological survey of theory and practice of graphic design from the Industrial Revolution to the present. Through slide lecture, reading assignments, word and a studio projection, we actively investigate how graphic pattern responded to and influenced the social, political, and technological context. Accent is on European and American design histories, in addition to major movements in Russia and the Due east.     Open to all students. Introduces traditional shooting and editing skills using a DSLR. Students can also use a smart phone and cloud-based editing to embrace photo assignments. Topics include camera functioning, image processing, image tagging, explanation writing, and publishing. Assignments are processed in blackness and white during the starting time half of the grade; colour is introduced later on.
